About Avril Lavigne

Clad in Converse sneakers and baggy skater jeans, punk-tinged rocker Avril Lavigne burst onto the music scene at 16 with pop songs "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" in the summer of 2002. Though in her early days she made headlines for her wild fashion sense and verbal clashes with pop princesses Hilary Duff and Britney Spears, the petite singer with stick-straight hair has since refined her image by donning couture gowns and appearing in magazines like Harper's Bazaar.

In 2006, Lavigne provided the voice for Heather, an opossum, in the animated movie Over the Hedge and appeared in Fast Food Nation as a protesting college student. That same year, she married her boyfriend, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in July, wearing an ivory Vera Wang gown. Of her transformation, Lavigne says, "I'm just growing up."
