Halle Berry: Snapshot

Beauty queen, successful model and actress – she was all those things. But Halle Berry really became a major star after her stunning performance as the wife of a death-row inmate in Monster's Ball.

Her career has been a balance of big-budget commercial films (Die Another Day, the X-Men trilogy) with such critically acclaimed dramas as Spike Lee's Jungle Fever and HBO's Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, for which she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe. With Monster's Ball, she became the first black woman to win an Oscar. (Dorothy Dandridge herself was the first black female nominee.)

Over the years, Berry has struggled to find a loving, lasting relationship. She was married to Atlanta Braves baseball player David Justice for four years and to singer Eric Benét for three. Both cheated on her, and she had to file a restraining order against Justice after their divorce. In her 20s, an unnamed boyfriend hit her so hard she suffered an 80 percent hearing loss in her left ear. Currently, she is happy with model Gabriel Aubrey, whom she met when the two posed for a Versace shoot together.
